2009 - Late Harvest Riesling
- * Style: Sweet
- * Type: Table
- * Region: California
This Late Harvest Riesling is full of the bright fruit highlights that make Riesling such a joy. Tropical fruit aromas abound with a nice complex, honeyed finish. This wine is sweet, yet the inherent acidity maintains a very refreshing and pleasant flavor. Lychee fruit and lemon peel are mixed within the delicate caramel framework of flavor and bouquet. Enjoy this wine with or without the dessert!
2009 - Riesling
- * Style: Med-Sweet
- * Type: Table
- * Region: California
Riesling has a unique versatility that is afforded few grapes. Wine made in styles of sticky-sweet late harvest or as a dry table wine reflect the brilliant fruit and acid structure that Riesling has to offer. Our 2009 is the third harvest off our Carter Estate Vineyards and it shows wonderful potential for such a young vineyard. The Character is pure Riesling, and it is unmistakable; Candied, spicy hints of nutmeg and clove, apples with scented tropical fruit and leechee nut (often spoke of but rarely seen) are finished off with just the right sweetness and acidity. Hallmarks of what made Germany famous of Riesling. This is a riper, fuller style of Riesling that has lush character and can stand up to a variety of food pairings. Pork schnitzel and braised cabbage with apples, ripe cheeses and fruit of a spectacular Temecula sunset would match up with this elegant wine. Amen.
South Coast Winery owner Jim Carter grew up in Ohio. As an eight-year old, he would gather seeds from the huge maple tree outside his home and plant them in his relatives’ yards. Jim loved digging in the earth and watching things grow. Jim’s love for growing things continued and in the 1990’s he purchased 400 acres in the Agua Tibia Mountains just south of Temecula in the Cleveland National Forest. This pristine region in southern California, with views for miles of the fertile valley below, reminded Jim of the classic vineyards that set the scene in the movie “A Walk in the Clouds.”
Jim analyzed the water, soil and climate. Finding the conditions ideal, he started digging in the earth once more. He planted and nurtured the finest grapes with the help of a hard-working team. Expert winemakers joined to create the wines that would establish the winery’s reputation for excellence. South Coast Winery has now extended the vineyards to encompass land in the Temecula Valley as well as Monterey County. Every wine that South Coast Winery produces comes from estate owned and farmed vineyards. This is the first step in ensuring the wines are consistent and quality is always present.
South Coast Winery is known for its variety of wines and commitment to quality. Besides Riesling, South Coast also produces numerous other white, rosé and red wines. Our passion and dedication to excellence has brought South Coast Winery to the forefront of California winemaking and earned the winery “California Winery of the Year” awards over multiple years.
