The Foods

Riesling is the ultimate “food wine”.  Besides being a great “sipping wine”, Riesling’s many different taste profiles from dry to sweet provide many ideal matches with foods from savory to sweet.  The typically high natural acid of Riesling wines is a refreshing palate cleanser.  Riesling is historically linked to traditional German and Alsatian cuisine like pork and sauerkraut, but is also a great match for many types of seafood, sushi, chicken, cheeses and desserts.  The spicy flavors of Thai and Mexican cuisine are beautifully complemented by Rieslings on the sweeter side, where “the sweet meets the heat”.  It’s fun to experiment with different Rieslings for different dishes to discover what you like best.  The recipes below, courtesy of the New York Wine & Grape Foundation, are just a few examples of great Riesling cuisine.  Bon appétit!
